Leading US archery coach Lloyd Brown has been handed the responsibility of heading up Great Britain's quest for medals at the London 2012 Olympics.

Lloyd, who was born in California, where he still lives with his wife and two young children, will bring with him a wealth of experience and achievement - and says he cannot wait to get started.

"It is well known and acknowleged that Britain has some outstanding archers, and many with the potential to win medals at the London Games," said Lloyd, who replaces Peter Suk. "Nothing will give me greater pleasure than being the coach that helped them do that."

He has a proven track record in delivering medals at the Olympics, having coached Justin Huish to individual gold for the USA at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, and then Huish, Rod White and Richard Johnson to gold in the men's team event. He was also the coach in Sydney 2000, when the US won the men's team bronze, and Vic Wunderle won the individual silver.

Away from the Olympics, he has also coached the USA at four World Target Championships, four World Junior Championships, and many other international events worldwide.

"I am really looking forward to the opportunity to help maximize the performance of Great Britain’s elite archers in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games," said Lloyd. "I want to use my experience to the benefit of the British squad, and help develop them even further as archers."

For the past 20 years Lloyd has worked across both USA high performance programmes and coaching development.

"I have extensive international coaching experience and am very proud of the success I have had in these positions," he said. "I would like the opportunity to work full-time for the development of elite athletes and coaching programmes, and . I feel that I am well prepared for this position and extremely well qualified.

"I continue to study the sport, attending every World Championships taking videos and pictures of the best archers in the world. I use this information to compare successful archers and for presentation in seminars and coaching courses.

"I enjoy working with the other sports scientists, and feel it is important to have a team of individuals that are highly knowledgeable experts in their fields. When working with athletes at the elite level, I work with them to determine their needs and then work to find solutions."

Archery GB's Performance Director Sara Symington said she was delighted that Lloyd had expressed interest in the role, and accepted the offer to become Head Coach.

"We have hired a top class coach with a fantastic track record in Olympic success," said Sara. "I am confident that Lloyd can bring out the very best in our elite archers, and make them very competitive at the London Olympics.

"I am also sure Lloyd will be a great asset to our up and coming archers, such as those on the fringe of the senior squad over the next three years. We have some great talent, and with the right coach, the right environment, the right sports science support, then anything is possible."
