No surprises, as familiar names dominate GB rankings

October 18, 2009
By Peter Jones

The final GB rankings for 2009 show no surprises, with the established members of the British international ranks dominating the top order - although Simon Terry is the only gold medalist from the recent National Series Grand Final to make number one.

Simon heads the men's recurve rankings from Larry Godfrey, Alan Wills, Michael Peart and Tom Barber. Tom is one of two juniors to feature in the top ten, with Mark Nesbitt at number seven, behind Jon Shales.

Former Olympic archer Simon Needham, Bowmen of Bruntwood's Rob Hallworth - who came so close to making the National Series Grand Final - and Lee Williams of Meriden Archery Club, complete the top ten.

In the women's recurve list, Naomi Folkard has the number one slot from Alison Williamson, with National Series Grand Final winner Charlotte Burgess in third. Jenny Jeppsson, who completed the Lilleshall Grand Final line-up earlier this month, is fourth, ahead of Amy Oliver, Emma Downie, Rebecca Dawson, Estelle Edwick, Philippa Lowe and Abi Clayton.

Lucy O'Sullivan's victory at Lilleshall helped earn her a top five place in the women's compound rankings, dominated again by Nicky Hunt and Nichola Simpson. Rikki Bingham and Andrea Gales are third and fourth respectively, while Paralympian Danielle Brown completed a great year of archery by taking sixth place in the rankings.

Tracey McGowan, Lucy Holderness, Kay Smith and Christie Westman complete the top ten.

And in men's compound, Chris White's place at the top of the rankings has become as sure as night follows day. Grand Final winner Duncan Busby - who beat Chris in the final at Lilleshall - is second, with World Championship silver medalist Liam Grimwood in third.

Andy Rikunenko, James Bingham, James Forbes, Jonathan Mynott, Tapani Kalmaru, John Robbins and Adam Shaw complete the top ten.
